Our Story

Hi! I'm Laura — the one-woman show behind The Potted Pixel, designed for the plant-obsessed. And I mean that as a compliment — I'm one of you. I draw plants (and the wild, tangled world they live in) for a living — these days mostly with an Apple Pencil in hand instead of a paintbrush — which still feels a little unreal to say out loud. For me it's never just been about making something pretty — it's my version of slowing down, a little ritual of calm in the middle of a very not-calm world.

Here's the plot twist: this whole thing exists because I got laid off. I'd spent years in corporate marketing and tech, and then — poof — that chapter ended, out of nowhere. Instead of spiraling (okay, a little spiraling happened first), I took it as my sign to finally go all-in on the art I'd always been squeezing into nights and weekends. That's how The Potted Pixel was born, and it's been a wild, honest, occasionally chaotic ride ever since.

These days, most of what you see in the shop comes straight from my digital sketchbook — hand-illustrated prints and designs inspired by plants, forests, and all the small, weird wonders of everyday life. I try to keep the details simple and thoughtful, the kind of thing that makes a fellow plant person stop scrolling for a second.

As the shop's grown, so has the vision for it. Alongside my own work, I hand-pick a small lineup of nature-inspired goods from other makers whose stuff just fits — same spirit, same love of the natural world, different hands. Nothing sneaks in here by accident; it's all chosen to feel like it belongs, whether you've got two plants or two hundred.

So whether it's one of my original illustrations, a paper good I obsessed over the details of, or a piece from another artist I'm a fan of — it's all here for the same reason: because it's genuinely made for people who love plants a little (or a lot) too much.
